Congratulations to alumnus Hayley Winchcombe who was nominated as the New Columbo Plan ASEAN Fellow earlier this year. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, is the premier regional grouping in Southeast Asia and is one of Australia’s top three trading partners, representing around 15% of Australia’s total trade. Hayley is currently completing her Honours thesis on International Relations in Southeast Asia and with her position as a Fellow, will be very well set-up with networks for her project!
To the right is a photo of Hayley attending the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit back in March, alongside the Australian Ambassador to ASEAN, Jane Duke, Malcolm Turnbull (now ex-PM!), Julie Bishop and the ASEAN Secretary-General Dato Lim Jock Hoi.
In June, Hayley interned with the Institute for Southeast Asian Studies at the Yusof Ishak Institute. Her internship was research focussed and as part of her time with the institution, Hayley was also fortunate enough to attend many talks by regional experts and scholars.
Hayley has also been working with the Australian Chamber of Commerce to ASEAN and had the opportunity to attend the ASEAN Foundation’s Model ASEAN Meeting with 180 young students from across ASEAN back in July.
This month, Hayley is heaading to Jakarta to intern with the Australian Mission to ASEAN. Good luck with your many endeavours Hayley!
